About the role

The Human Resource Manager leads the HR function across the organisation — recruitment, industrial relations, performance management, compensation and compliance. This is a hands-on role in a business where HR is expected to be both operational and strategic: running the day-to-day people processes while advising leadership on structure, capability and risk.

Key responsibilities

Recruitment and staffing

  • Manage the full recruitment cycle: workforce planning, job descriptions, advertising, screening, interviewing, selection and offers
  • Oversee onboarding and probationary reviews
  • Maintain an active talent pipeline for recurring and hard-to-fill roles

Industrial and employee relations

  • Serve as the first point of contact for employee grievances, disciplinary matters and conflict resolution
  • Conduct investigations and prepare documentation in line with the Industrial Relations Act
  • Support management in union engagement, collective bargaining and negotiations where applicable
  • Represent the organisation at the Industrial Court where required

Performance and development

  • Administer the performance appraisal cycle and coach managers through it
  • Identify training needs and coordinate delivery within budget
  • Support succession planning for critical roles

Compensation, benefits and payroll liaison

  • Maintain salary structures and participate in market benchmarking
  • Administer benefits including group health, pension and leave
  • Work with Finance on payroll accuracy, NIS, PAYE and Health Surcharge compliance

Compliance and HR administration

  • Ensure compliance with the Industrial Relations Act, Minimum Wages Act, Maternity Protection Act and OSH Act
  • Maintain accurate employee records and HRIS data
  • Develop, update and communicate HR policies and the employee handbook
  • Produce headcount, turnover, absence and cost-per-hire reporting for leadership

Requirements

Requirements

Essential

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resource Management, Business Administration, Behavioural Sciences or a related field
  • Minimum five years of progressive HR experience, including two years at supervisory or managerial level
  • Working knowledge of Trinidad and Tobago labour legislation and industrial relations practice
  • Demonstrated experience managing disciplinary and grievance processes end to end
  • Proficiency with HRIS or payroll systems and strong Microsoft Excel skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, with the ability to advise senior management

Desirable

  • Postgraduate qualification in HR, Industrial Relations or an MBA
  • Membership of the Human Resource Management Association of Trinidad and Tobago (HRMATT)
  • Experience in a unionised environment
  • Exposure to multi-site or regional operations
  • Experience implementing an HRIS or digitising HR processes
